How old is Liberty?
Liberty was founded May 20th, 2003 on release day of Planetside.
Which games has Liberty influenced?
We have been in Planetside on the Emerald server playing New Conglomerate, we have been in World of Warcraft on the Burning Blade server playing Horde, and we have been in Warhammer Online on the Vortex server playing Destruction. Our members have played many other games along the way but none in any serious capacity or under the Liberty name. We are gearing up to play Global Agenda next and get back to our FPS roots.
Why are the Liberty colors Gold & Blue?
We get our colors and our iconography from our Planetside heritage as a tribute and honor to our beginnings. Our faction, the New Conglomerate, bore the colors of Gold and Blue and used bird iconography. In WoW our tabard was gold with blue trim featuring a two-headed eagle. We continue this tradition and heritage into WAR. It is also fortunate for us, as the gold color stands out, and the combination of blue and gold is rather rare in gaming. In this way we avoid the cliche colors and when our enemies see the gold, there is no mistake about who they are fighting. These colors work out for the best, giving us a sense of culture, individuality, and practical use in-game.
What is the Liberty emblem?
A phoenix. It continues the bird iconography and also symbolizes our recurrent gamer nature. The Phoenix is also the name of one of our favorite Planetside weapons from our old faction. It is fitting in many ways.
How do I join Liberty?
Start by reading our Charter, which details our recruitment process. You can start this process by registering on our site, logging in, and then clicking the "Enlist" menu link to fill out an application.
Why is your recruitment process so complex and involved?
Because recruitment is the singlemost important aspect of a cultural body. Every member adds their own culture to ours, changing the culture that is Liberty. Every member's actions and behavior reflect upon all of us. And as the old saying goes, a chain is as strong as its weakest link. Our recruitment process is a reflection of our high standards, organization and ideals. We care deeply about who we bring into our family. We want to make sure that those who fit our culture and share our virtues are the ones getting in. In this way we avoid the drama and divisions that plague other online gaming groups, and Liberty remains of the highest quality and effectiveness.
How do I get sponsors?
Be social! Our goal of recruitment is to see if you fit with us and are motivated, and the best way to do both is to be proactive in getting to know our members. The best way to get sponsors is to talk to Liberty members and group up with us. In doing so our members will start to get to know you. Do not ask members for their sponsorship; when they feel they know you well enough to give a recruitment recommendation, they will do so on their own accord.
What does "chizowed" mean?
In our early days of Planetside, we had a member named Chizow who was extremely gifted. So gifted that whenever he was around the enemy seemed to just fall over and die. Many members joked about how they would be working on killing something and out of nowhere Chizow would appear and get the kill-shot. Thus the phrase "getting Chizowed" was born. Today we use it in our everyday speech as a term for robbing, stealing or denying someone of their kill.
What does "red = dead" mean?
This phrase is a statement of mercilessness; a clear message that we will kill anyone, anywhere, at any time. It came from our World of Warcraft days. In the early days there were no battlegrounds and the only source of PvP was world PvP. Additionally the Horde on our server were vastly outnumbered by Alliance, so it was hard for Horde to level up, particularly in the middle-high level contested zones. We created the "red = dead" slogan as our statement to the Alliance that we didn't care who they were, what level they were, or what they were doing; if their name was red to us, they were going to die. We used it in our campaigns to cleanse entire zones of Alliance, which we would spend hours of time doing. In doing this we would pick fights with Alliance guilds who tried to stop us and it was one of our best ways to get a good PvP fight as well contribute to Horde dominance. This hardcore take-no-prisoners attitude persists with Liberty today as a core part of our culture.
What does it mean when someone tells me to "go make a sandwich"?
This phrase refers to our method of dealing with getting spawn camped. Respawning quickly only encourages spawn campers to keep camping you; if you simply do not respawn for a period of time the campers will get frustrated, bored, and move on to targets that will. So to deny campers the satisfaction of ever getting free Liberty kills, we have the "go make a sandwich" policy, which basically means that you should go do something productive in the real world while the camper wastes his time waiting for you. Making a sandwich, doing laundry, watching a DVR'd TV show - all of these sort of things are a great way to do something productive while the spawn camper just gets frustrated and bored. It is effective, and it saves face. The phrase is also used as a generic way of saying "take a break - don't let it get to you." Sometimes we all need breaks, and frustration only impairs our judgement and leads to bad things. So if you are getting upset or frustrated, go make a sandwich and chill a bit.
What happened to Liberty's old website & forums?
Through our many years as a gaming group we've had several unintentional forum losses, one of them as recent as April of 2008. So while we have been around for a long time, unfortunately our forums have not. We continue to track down some of our old members who may be unaware the Liberty site has risen again like a phoenix from the ash. Additionally, our former site http://www.kill-spam.net is still owned by Liberty and points to this very site to guide old members home.
Why did Liberty change its domain name?
We felt that the Liberty name was best suited being in the domain. Kill-spam.net, while accurate as to what we produce in-game, is easy to misinterpret and the .net extension was the source of much confusion in the past. We've adopted the name liberty-clan.com because the "clan" reference is most closely associated with both FPS & MMORPG gaming groups, while "guild" is typically only associated with MMORPGs. Since Liberty was founded on an MMOFPS & we play both those and MMORPGs, we prefer the -clan naming to avoid misrepresentation. The .com extension is easy to remember to help newcomers easily find our site.
Why did Liberty change its voice server?
Since the beginning of Liberty we have used Teamspeak. However, over the five years of our existence it has fallen out of favor in the MMO community. TS is still widely used in FPS games, but not so much in the MMOs we play today. We've adapted to the times and switched to Ventrilo after a member vote showed that 72% of our members preferred it over Teamspeak. Given that our primary game is an MMO and that's what our members want, we have switched to Ventrilo.
Who made Liberty's Logo?
Our logo was created by Reno Designs. They gave us exactly what we wanted and we would strongly recommend them for your logo or business needs. You can contact Reno Designs by visiting their website: http://www.reno-designs.com/
