As a gamer i love this date, can play the game all Christmas break. As an investor it missed Nov and Dec sales so it basically misses the holiday season that is the biggest sales season so it is epic fail. Bliz works to release shit in November before T-day. Cata was a fuckup but we all know that.

Very true. But on the other hand, I don't know if initial launch is everything for a fledgling MMO. WoW launched in August (beginning of the school year), and look where it went. And we have all seen where a big overwhelming launch can get you (WAR). Perhaps if the company badly needed that initial revenue, but I don't think EA is in that boat. There's far more to gain from subscriptions down the road.
