Recruitment

We are not for everyone, and not everyone is for us. We are elitist. We are perfectionist. We are demanding. We are ambitious. We are hardcore. The greatest enjoyment for us in gaming is good competition and overcoming the odds through superior skill, strategy, and teamwork. That means we our recruitment is extremely selective, and only a small number of those who apply endure to see full-member status. Our policy is designed to weed out those who do not fit our culture and those who are not truly interested in joining. It also requires effort on the part of a recruit. Simply applying and doing nothing will always result in rejection. Those who are driven and belong with us end up with us.

We have used this method of recruitment for over eight years and have refined it over that time. While we have often received criticism for having strict recruitment methods it is the greatest reason for our repeated success, loyalty, and strong culture.

Overview

In a nutshell our recruitment procedure is that of a long interview that spans about a month where members give 'yes' and 'no' recommendations as they get to know the recruits.

Our recruitment model is heavily based on the ideas of sponsorship and veto. Full Liberty members have the power to support a recruit and say "I think this person is a good fit." They also have the power to cast a veto and claim the opposite - "This person doesn't fit." The point of these two ideas is that a recruit must go out and meet our members, group with us and join us for battles. This allows opportunity for both the recruit and members to evaluate how well the recruit fits with our ideology and culture.

Recruitment has been streamlined for PS2 into a single phase: the Recruit Phase. It starts by either being scouted by us or by seeking us out and then filling out an application. We have been known to reject for many reasons, including bad reputation, a half-assed application, stupidity, terrible skill, or simply undignified behavior. Assuming we don't outright reject a would-be recruit for these reasons the recruit phase will last for 30 days. At the end of the 30 days a decision will be made amongst the members of the outfit. If sufficient "yes" votes are received and no vetoes then the recruit will become a full member. It only takes one veto to reject a recruit. We require 30 days to ensure we get a good sampling of the recruit before making a decision. However, that period may end earlier due to veto.

On to some of the details...

Application

We require an application from all recruits, including those we scout out. It only takes a little bit of time and it gives members some basic information about the person. The application tends to be weighed more for those who seek us out vs those we scout. The basic run-down of the prospective recruit and what they are about shows us initiative and a willingness to be a part of the group. We will reject recruits who fill out a shitty app or do not completely fill one out. Its important to us and so we expect those who want to be a part of us to respect that and take a little time to make a good first impression.

Recruit Period

After an application is deemed acceptable and the prospective recruit demonstrates fulfillment of our basic requirements the recruit will be invited into the outfit and have access to all the resources as a normal member does. This makes it easy for the recruit to join our squads and team up with members. We want to give recruits all the opportunity to be successful and show us what they can do.

From the day of the invite the recruit has 30 days to prove themselves and demonstrate that they belong in our culture and meet our skill requirements. Only after the 30 days expires can a recruit become a full member. However, vetoes may cause a recruit to be rejected prior to the 30 days.Assuming sufficient support from the other members and no vetoes the recruit becomes a member after the 30 days.

Veto & Rejection

The purpose behind veto is a means to cast doubt or express concern about a recruit.

There are two types of Vetos - the first is the "Hold" which means a member wants to see some behavior improve or change, otherwise they will reject the app. It is a way of expressing concern. The second type is "Veto" and it is an immediate rejection. These vetoes are filtered and discussed so petty things don't turn away an otherwise good recruit. If the veto is sound and well-founded it will stand and the recruit will be rejected.

There is also the implied veto - if a recruit has insufficient support from members at the end of the 30 days then a veto is automatically applied. This is to prevent a person who is not a bad person but is otherwise a weak or mediocre player from joining.

An important thing for all recruits to understand is that when we reject someone we do not give a reason. It is not our interest to degrade a person or give them laundry lists of the faults we perceive, nor do we wish to have a pointless argument about whether we made the correct call. It will be a simple response and the reason will always be that the recruit is simply not a good fit. We expect all recruits to understand this and to part ways on friendly terms with no hard feelings. We all are interested in games to have fun and so we want to keep the spirit of that and maintain integrity to those who try out but do not make it. We are thankful and respectful to all recruits for their time investment.

Recruit Requirements

The following are required to become a recruit

1) Full completion of an Application via the Liberty website.
We are particularly critical of poorly written or half-assed applications and see them as a reflection of an Applicant's desire to join us.

2) Voice comms.
This means both the voice client and a working mic. No exceptions. We will verify the individual gets on our voice comms and has a working mic before inviting to the outfit.

3) Age 18 or over.
We are a mature group aimed at college-aged individuals and over. Many of our members are in their mid-20's. We obviously have no means of verifying your age, but we expect you to behave and communicate at a level that can easily pass as being 18 or over.

4) Fluent English.
We are an English-only outfit. It doesn't have to be your first language but we do require that you speak and understand it fluently.

If all of these requirements are met then the 30 day Recruit period begins and the recruit's fate is in their own hands.
