Natural Selection 2 Goes Alpha!
Sun Jul 18, 08:29 pm MST
If you ever played the old half life mod games like Day of Defeat and Counter-strike, then you may have played possibly the best mod of them all - Natural Selection. It is a hybrid RTS/FPS in futuristic installation settings that are basically Terrans vs Zerg. On the marine side one person is the "commander" and has access to top-down RTS style controls where he can drop supplies, issue orders to the other players, and put down structures to build. The other marines can build those structures with tools. The maps have resource nodes that need to be captured to help build structures, buy upgrades to weapons, etc. On the alien side its a sort of hive-mind with different forms they can mutate into, from fast moving zergling-like things to builders, to fliers, to hydralisk-like things and ultimately ultraliisks.

It starts off with small light confrontation with marines having light pulse-rifle style weapons and shotguns against little zergling aliens. As resources accumulate both sides develop better equipment. Aliens morph into more nasty forms and the marines get bigger and stronger weaponry, like grenade launchers and heavy machineguns. They have teleporter units to get around and sentry guns. While the aliens develop nastier bio-weapons like toxic clouds and acid spit.

Very awesome game, the sequel is sure to rock. For a long time NS2 was in development and and looked like it would never be released, but here it is. Its going Alpha on July 27th, with access being granted via steam to all who pre-ordered the special edition of the game. You can pre-order until July 26th.

This teaser shows off the biggest of the aliens, the Oros (ultralisk, basically).

Happy 7th Liberty!
Thu May 20, 03:53 pm MST
7 years ago, Liberty was founded by a thrown-together group of players in an awesome game called Planetside. We had no idea it would make it this far or be anywhere near as successful as it has been in multiple games.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 Released - Go get it bitches!

BFBC2 is now out and available on Steam.

Lots of Liberty are enjoying this game. Beta was great and there's some solid gameplay in this game and a lot of action. It's pretty much everything good about previous battlefield games and mostly none of the bad stuff.

Even the classic undesirable maps with lots of distance between points of interest and vehicle whoring are scaled back and not terrible. There's no jets owning everything with impunity and the choppers are powerful but can still be taken down fairly easily. Tracer darts make vehicles more susceptible to AV and lots of cover (initially) makes for great infantry combat. Destructible terrain makes for dynamic combat and variety.

All around awesome game, check out the threads for in-game name lists.

Pretty badass looking MMO FPS. Lot of customization, action-focused urban combat, and did I mention its an MMO FPS? It might be right up our alley. We caught wind of it last summer but quickly became distracted by the jailbait booth babes they had at E3 (shown above).

Check out the trailer and some of the podcasts.

Give some feedback on this one. Looks to be a game Liberty could thoroughly enjoy.

Global Agenda at PAX?
Thu Jul 30, 09:53 pm MST
If you check out the Penny Arcade eXpo site (PAX), you will see "Global Agenda" listed as a sponsor. PAX is held every year in downtown Seattle, where myself and a few other members happen to live.

If you're thinking about going, chime in on this thread and we can have some beers, meet the HiRez team, check out all the other games there and have a fun weekend.

Check out their site for more info. PAX is September 4th through the 6th.
